Designing a Mobile AI Accounting Companion for Tyms

The Problem
Tyms, an AI-powered accounting platform, was web-only. Many users—particularly small business owners—needed to perform quick financial tasks on the go. From generating invoices to querying their ledger, they wanted more flexibility without always logging into a desktop browser.
This led to the need for a mobile AI experience — something fast, smart, and intuitive.

My Role
I led the entire design process, including:
Defining user journeys
Creating foundational mobile components
Designing hi-fi flows for the AI assistant experience
Collaborating with stakeholders to align the product direction

Research & Discovery
Given the AI-focused nature of the product, my research centered around user familiarity with AI assistants. I studied tools like:
ChatGPT
Claude AI
As well as finance chatbots in the market
The goal was to match user mental models already shaped by these tools, while embedding financial features specific to Tyms' ecosystem.
Key Insight: Business users want answers fast — no jargon, just clarity. The interface had to feel responsive, trusted, and intuitive.

Ideation & Flow Design
The goal and flow were simple and straight-froward. Create a design with flows that users can easily relate with.

Design Execution
I created a base component system tailored for mobile, with variations to support both system-driven and AI-generated outputs.
Included cards, modals, quick action trays, and AI thread layouts.
AI Chat Experience:
Designed a central conversational interface where users could:
Ask for balance summaries
Generate reports
Get financial insights
Trigger invoice creation via chat
Hi-fi Flows:
Designed full task flows like “Create invoice via chat,” “Summarize monthly spend,” and “Generate tax-ready reports.”
Stakeholder Sessions:
Syncs with the Tyms founder ensured alignment across data, UX, and backend capabilities.
