Rebuilding Skaletek’s Compliance Platform from the Ground Up to Improve Partner Onboarding and User Flow Clarity

  • Project: Full UX/UI Redesign of Skaletek's Compliance Platform

  • Goal: Reduce user drop-off, modernize interface, and meet current market expectations

  • Result: New scalable platform rolled out in phases, improved onboarding clarity and usability for internal and partner users

  • Role: Lead Product Designer

  • Timeline: 10 weeks

  • Team: Me (Design), PM, CTO, Engineers, Compliance Ops

01

The Problem

Skaletek’s existing compliance platform suffered from:

  • High user and partner drop-offs during onboarding

  • Outdated, non-responsive interface

  • UX patterns that didn’t align with how partners or internal teams actually work

This hindered user trust and delayed our ability to scale onboarding or demonstrate compliance readiness to enterprise clients.

02

My Role

I led the full redesign effort — from research and ideation to component-level execution and phased rollout. I worked closely with internal stakeholders, compliance teams, and engineering to ensure the solution was not only visually refreshed but strategically aligned with business needs.

03

Research & Discovery

This was one of the most complex products I’ve worked on, due to the niche nature of regulatory workflows. My research process included:

  • Deep stakeholder interviews (Ops, Engineering, Compliance) to understand user journeys and platform limitations

  • Studying 5+ competitive compliance platforms (e.g., Alloy, Persona, ComplyAdvantage)

  • Mapping partner onboarding friction and internal review bottlenecks

  • Hosting informal sessions with end users to understand gaps in the experience and content hierarchy

Insight: What we initially thought was just a UI issue was actually a flow design and information architecture issue that made key actions hard to discover.

04

Ideation & Flow Design

While the initial goal was just a visual update, I quickly identified deeper needs:

  • Introduced new partner onboarding flows that mirrored actual partner behavior

  • Consolidated compliance actions into task-based modules to reduce context switching

  • Designed new admin features for tiered user access and role-specific dashboards

I validated these changes through multiple whiteboard sessions with the CTO and design walkthroughs with the compliance team.

05

Design Execution

  • Built a robust, custom component library from scratch using tokens and variants for scalability

  • Established consistent layout patterns, improved typography (updated fonts and spacing), and added support for empty states and loading feedback

  • Delivered the redesign in phases to avoid interrupting day-to-day operations:

    • Phase 1: UI polish (fonts, spacing, navigation cleanup)

    • Phase 2: Modular component swaps

    • Phase 3: New partner onboarding and task management flows

All components were WCAG 2.1 compliant to ensure accessibility readiness for future regulatory requirements.

06

Impact & Results

  • Rolled out redesigned platform without disrupting operations

  • Improved partner onboarding clarity, based on internal feedback

  • Enabled engineering to work faster with reusable, documented components

⚠️ While business didn’t have analytics tools in place, stakeholders noted a significant drop in partner setup friction during demos and manual walkthroughs
